Nuance

I don’t know who killed nuance (though I suspect it was a team effort), but flattening the complexity of existence and truth does no one any favours (except those who benefit from whatever version of reality is offered up). Platitudes sound nice, but what is even better is the (sometimes bitter) truth that compels us to acknowledge the contradictions we’re living in (the same contradictions we created), and face them as gracefully as possible.

Jesus

Our problems are many,

Yet the solutions radiate from one Being.

He wraps Himself in light,

And dwells in inapproachable glory.

We’ve long known the solution – Love thy neighbour,

But the heart resists when it is time to act

Complaints rise, yet love doesn’t flow

So how do you expect there to be any real change?

Maybe you don’t truly value righteousness,

Maybe the purity of innocence doesn’t draw you as you claim

Because if it did, as much as money, attention or influence,

You’d sacrifice those very things to pursue Him

The path of deep love is often quiet,

And as long as it continues to be ‘their problem’

And not ours,

The world will continue to be the same.

*I claim no ownership of these words – they are the Holy Spirit’s flowing through me; I am just a conduit

True and lasting peace on earth

The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling[a] together;
and a little child will lead them.
The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
The infant will play near the cobra’s den,
and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.
They will neither harm nor destroy
    on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.
